Second, a bit more about my debut novel.
One of the verses woven into Small Town Rivals is Philippians 4:8 (CSB):
"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable...dwell on these things."
I've thought a lot about that verse—not only in what we think about, but also in what we choose to fill our minds with.
I love a good romance.
I love the butterflies, the banter, the just kiss already! moments, and characters who make me grin at my book like a crazy person.
But I also believe we can enjoy a wonderful love story without filling our minds with things we'd rather not be there.
That's a big part of why I wanted to write clean romance.
I wanted to write stories with chemistry and swoony moments. Stories that are funny and romantic and hard to put down. But I also wanted them to be stories I could confidently hand to my (one day) teenage daughter.
Stories that don't make her feel like maintaining her standards means she has to miss out on a good love story.
That's exactly who I wrote the dedication of Small Town Rivals for:
"For the girls who adore a good love story.
Who want to keep their standards high and their minds clean.
May you never feel pressured to settle for less than what is good, pure, and true."
That's the heart behind this new side of what I'm creating.
What can you expect from my fiction?
Sweet romance. Characters you'll hopefully want to root for. Humor, friendship, family, and all the wonderfully awkward moments that come with falling for someone.
You'll also find faith.
Not every book will be a sermon wrapped in a romance novel. But my faith shapes the way I see the world, so naturally, it's going to shape the stories I tell.
Sometimes it may be more visible. Sometimes it may simply be reflected in the choices the characters make, the things they're learning, and the hope underneath the story.
